Shortly after posting the advertisement and requirements on 'Gumtree', Samia had received many applicants wanting to be a part of our production process. After examining their profiles and C.V.'s we short-listed the actors down to 8, 4 males and 4 females:

Recruiting Our Actors/Actresses

Our Casting Director Samia Ahmed produced an on-line advertisement to become actors and actresses for our horror trailer 'REDEMPTION'. We felt that hiring people outside of our college would make the outcome more professional and it was a good experience for us to meet new people. Plus spreading the word about our trailer/film! She used 'Gumtree' which is an on-line forum where people can find jobs and work experience etc.

Quarantine (2008)

One film that myself and my group found particularly interesting and inspirational was John Erick Dowdle's 'Quarantine'.

Storyline

Television reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew's videotape.

After watching this trailer in class, we became very interested in this film and we believe that this trailer creates a lot of tension and definitely makes the audience want to watch the film, as we did. Yet again, we see the use of night vision and a new's report and this is also based on a 'true story' in the film. I also like the soundtrack used, it is very atmospheric. This all seems very realistic which I feel is a very useful tool in creating horror.

Research On Storyboards

Storyboards are graphic organizers such as a series of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence, including website interactivity.The storyboarding process, in its original form (which is still used today), was developed at the Walt Disney Studio during the early 1930s, after several years of similar processes being in use at Walt Disney and other animation studios.

Storyboarding helps directors and other members of the film making team to visualise what a scene will look like and can prepare them for the filming process. It can save a lot of time and money on set as all the shots have already been planned.

Background On The Villian

What I think Balthazar will look like as a character

Here is just a quick outline of the past and present traits of our Villian-Balthazar, explaining the motive he possesses to carry out the horrifying actions he does:

From a young age Balthazar has witnessed and been brought up around drug abuse, his parents were users and also injected him. His family became homeless in his early life and he is forced in to a world of poverty. He sells and uses drugs – this is the only thing he knows and means he has to survive (copies parents). His abusive childhood, leads to him murdering his father; thus, believing that his mother will be safer.

Now older, he uses syringes to infect immoral humans. He believes that his blood cleanses people; especially the immoral people, in order to make them through the body. On the anniversary of his mother’s death; he goes on an injecting spree, to purify people. However, he starts a pandemic, purifying with impure blood (in more ways than one).
